“but why do we need to teach or mention asexuality in health class”

well my guy, maybe so asexual teens dont think something’s wrong w them ???

amethyst-is-autistic

and also, because a scary high amount of asexual teens force themselves into awful sexual situations and abusive relationships because they think there is something wrong with them and maybe we could make it so they didn’t do that

stormclouds-chainmail

Reblogging this because it’s so damn important.

nothingeverlost

It’s just as important for non-asexuals to understand that lack of sexual attraction is real and valid.

As an old person of 40, I was in high school in the late 90s-early 00s, in a small town in Midwest USA. It took me literally years after high school to find out about asexuality and I wasn’t made wrong somehow in my brain. The health class in high school had a section on sex education, where they taught us about STD/STIs, the correct way to put on a condom, and general body changes and what to look for when it came to cancer lump self-checks. The talk of sexualities was nowhere; literally heteronormative because they never even acknowledged LGBT. The talk about sex situations and consent was boiled down to “no means no, and don’t have sex without a condom”. It was a rolling dumpster fire of a class.

I started to answer this and realized the list is… convoluted (movie credit: Uncle Buck)

No school, though I take MOOC courses like they’re all gonna disappear from me one day (seriously, I love mooc courses so much and if I ever win the lottery, I’m becoming a professional student)

I work at a payday loan company. It’s not exactly what I would call honest work (seriously, the number of people in this world who don’t know what APR means is seriously disturbing) but it pays. Like really well.

I make maps and map data for a local government. I also do some programming for them, in those very specialized systems, and help those databases talk to other databases. I’m also writing a video game on the side.

MRI technologist. I put people into a giant tube and gently microwave them so that the nuclei in their hydrogen atoms align perpendicular to the magnetic field, give off a signal that is reconstructed by a computer into an image of their insides.

I also used to be a wardrobe technician for an ice show. Before that I interned in the costume shop of a Shakespeare theatre. Lots of retail, too, including a new age shop and Spencer’s.

I have a lot of stories. Some of which I am not allowed to post on the internet.

I’m currently a freelance editor for indie authors, but I’m applying to copywriting and adjunct English professor jobs right now!

I’m officially retired, but I’m currently making a comic strip, have written a few novels, and I’m trying to learn how to paint. In my twenties I was a rock star.

I am 40 years old, and after having to start my career path all over again, I am now employed at a major university in their financial department, as part of a team that audits expense reports. It’s like the super-lite version of forensic accounting, and it fascinates me like no other job ever has, with the exception of working at a video rental store in the early 2000’s in my small hometown.
